INTERVIEW
- Q. What is your favorite article of clothing? Is it the Converse All-Star high tops in a rainbow of colors?
- Dick Gruber: “Actually size 12, Converse Chuck Taylors in the color red!” [Just as anyone who has seen him about his red high tops!]
- When you are not busy with kids ministry and trying to find those vintage high tops, what do you enjoy doing?
- Dick Gruber: “Watching Star Trek and playing golf, not necessarily in that order! I guess you could say my hobbies are cartooning, writing, playing piano, going to Disney World, and cooking.”
- Q. What experiences in your life have uniquely prepared you for writing kids songs?
- Dick Gruber: “Definitely being a children’s worship leader.”
- Q. What is your ultimate hope or aim in composing?
- Dick Gruber: “Simply to glorify God and point kids and families to Him.”
- Q. Share your heart about writing for kids.
- Dick Gruber: “Children need Jesus in His grace and power more than ever before. Music reaches into the soul of children. Music is a tool through which children can easily learn and retain Scripture and Christian principles. Most of us learned our ABCs to a song. In like manner, boys and girls do as Sir Oliver once said, ‘sing it and never forget it’.”
- Q. Share with us the favorite song of yours in the Music Precedent catalog.
- Dick Gruber: “Guide Me Into Your Love.”
