BIOGRAPHY
Shelly, a true “domestic goddess,” loves to compose. When she is not reading, drawing, crocheting, baking, brewing sweet tea or playing “hurl-a-squirrel” with the family dog, she is doing her other favorite activity, writing songs. Of course this is assuming all of her “goddess” activities are out of the way. You know, the laundry, dishes, cooking, cleaning, etc. It’s not easy being a “domestic goddess!” She also holds the unofficial honor of making the “best 2-handed monster cookies” in Virginia and North Carolina!
Shelly has a rare gift for crafting expressive, fun lyrics, full of imagery and life. Her songs have been used on kids’ tapes, in Sunday school curriculum, in children’s church materials, and many other places as well.
INTERVIEW
- Q. Why do you enjoy composing?
- Shelly McFalls: “It gives me a sense of accomplishment. I love to write something and then see and hear kids sing it. They have a way of singing a song that adults just don’t have. You can almost see the moment when they actually understand what they've been singing. They are such a joy to watch. Sometimes I just want to write a song that is so silly, the kids just spend all their time smiling and giggling!”
- Q. What are some of your most memorable musical experiences?
- Shelly McFalls: “I have two. Number one: the first time I received a recording of some of my songs. My kids flipped when the heard ‘our song.’ They knew the words by heart and we were all so excited to hear it! Number two: I remember when my sister called and told me the children’s choir at her church sang one of my songs in the service. What a thrill!”
- Q. If I had to pick one favorite song from the Music Precedent catalog what would it be?
- Shelly McFalls: “It would have to be ‘Rise and Shine’.”
